On A Wing and A Prayer - Shetland
Katherine Wren of Nordic Viola enters into a musical conversation with composer, improviser and sound artist Renzo Spiteri.
Creating music through improvisation, field recordings, composition and the spoken word, together they reflect on species and habitats under threat whilst celebrating the beauty and diversity of Shetland’s nature, offering a prayer for its preservation and a more harmonious existence between humankind and the natural world. Environment, Space and Place
During this conference, Renzo will be presenting two works,
Sonic Interactions, a series of 4 audio/video works created in outdoor sites across Shetland that explore new forms of composition, installation and performance aesthetics as responses to rural environmental atmospheres of Shetland, and Wind Farm, a performative work from the project On a Wing and a Prayer Shetland created in collaboration with viola player Katherine Wren. Arctic Edgelands
A Musical Exploration of Shetland and Greenland at Sixty Degrees Latitude
Arctic Edgelands is a collaborative music project at the 60° latitude intersection, uniting Shetland-based percussionist, composer and sound recordist Renzo Spiteri, Scottish viola player Katherine Wren (from Nordic Viola), and Greenlandic composer Arnannguaq Gerstrøm.
Following an initial residency period held in Shetland in April 2024 through funding by Creative Scotland, the project will be presented at Nordic Music Days Festival in Glasgow in October/November 2024. More info out soon. |
