Jazz Assemblea is NAPA's celebration of Malta's jazz community, bringing together over 70 musicians across 20 concerts, plus a documentary, discussion and workshop, to explore the connections that have shaped Maltese jazz across generations. Established in 2023, the National Agency for Performing Arts aims to raise the profile of performing arts in Malta both locally and internationally.
For this festival, Renzo will be collaborating with Copenhagen-based Maltese guitarist/composer Glen Montanaro to present a new set of original music for guitar, percussion and electronics. The music brings together jazz with Mediterranean and Nordic influences, combining composed pieces with improvisation and exploring the different sounds and textures of the three instruments.

The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926)
Centenary Screening with a Live Score by Renzo Spiteri
Celebrating 100 years of Lotte Reiniger’s groundbreaking The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926), Spazju Kreattiv presents a special screening of this extraordinary landmark of animation accompanied by a newly commissioned live score by Maltese percussionist, sound artist and composer Renzo Spiteri.
Widely regarded as the earliest surviving feature-length animated film in the history of cinema, The Adventures of Prince Achmed is a masterpiece of silhouette animation. Drawing on stories from One Thousand and One Nights, and created entirely from intricate cut-out paper silhouettes and pioneering animation techniques, the film transports audiences into a fantastical world of flying horses, enchanted landscapes, sorcery, demons, romance and adventure.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
with a Live Score by Renzo Spiteri
Robert Wiene’s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) is a landmark of German Expressionist cinema and one of the most influential films in the history of horror. Made in the aftermath of the First World War, the film reflected the uncertainty, anxiety and fractured state of a Europe emerging from war, creating a world of distorted sets, stark shadows and stylised characters in which reality itself appears unstable.
Accompanying this 1920 masterpiece is a new live score by percussionist, composer and sound artist Renzo Spiteri. Commissioned by Spazju Kreattiv, Renzo’s work heightens the film’s sense of tension, instability and unease, creating a contemporary immersive encounter with the film’s shifting psychological landscape.
